Taming Tariff Volatility: How SAP Tools You Already Own Can Unlock Supply Chain Efficiency

Speaker: Tim McLain, Chief Strategy Officer, Lexin Solutions

When tariffs change and prices spike, it’s often the operational teams who feel it first—delays, cost blowouts, and last-minute scrambling for up-to-date quotes. But for MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) materials that aren’t under contract, there is a fix—and it’s already in your SAP system.

In this practical session, Tim McLain will show how using SAP’s Request for Quotation (RFQ) process to proactively maintain Purchasing Info Records (PIRs) can turn chaos into control. With just a few tweaks to your current processes, you can automate purchase order creation for non-contracted items, improve price accuracy, and reduce manual intervention.

Even better, this isn’t a new project—it’s a smart way to unlock more value from tools you already own. And it transforms procurement teams into data-savvy, first-level negotiators who are directly contributing to supply chain stability.

Key takeaways:

  • How to use SAP’s existing RFQ process to stay ahead of tariff-driven price changes
  • How maintaining PIRs enables PO automation—boosting speed and reducing manual effort
  • How procurement can become a proactive partner in the supply chain, not just a transactional function

The Power of One Way Workflow: How TasNetworks Transformed Maintenance Monitoring with SAP Signavio

Speaker: David Krujiver, Digital Solutions Lead at TasNetworks

In maintaining the electricity distribution network in Tasmania, TasNetworks is required to continually deliver a steady stream of maintenance and construction works. The workstream however was subjected to continual blockages and rework emanating from poor data, process and prioritisation practices. In 2024, a new ‘One way workflow’ was implemented, including the development of a “Works Management Standard” which clearly describes the process and data outcomes expected of various types of work.

As part of the revised process a number of SAP automation and configuration changes were made and significant retraining and coaching of works staff to align with the data and process continues to occur. Whilst evidence of data adherence is easily reported, and is trending in the right direction, there was no clear way to measure the process.

TasNetworks has implemented SAP Signavio to monitor the notification and work order process adherence and to accurately measure the benefits arising from the One Way Works Flow.

 Key Takeaways:

  • Real life examples of the application of Signavio across EAM data structure
  • View some of the other automation opportunities we took in our revised work order design
  • Measuring data quality is different to measuring process quality

Access That Works: Harnessing ALM and Signavio to Redesign Fiori Roles and Elevate the Supply Chain User Experience

Speaker: Alannah Johnson, Consultant, ex - Zespri

After going live with SAP Fiori, we discovered that users had significantly too much access—introducing serious compliance risk and creating day-to-day frustration. Fiori load times were long, it was extremely difficult for users to find the apps they needed, and nearly impossible for managers to know what access to request for new team members.

To address this, we rebuilt our SAP business roles from scratch using insights from SAP ALM and Signavio. We focused on aligning access with actual job functions—particularly across warehousing, procurement, planning, and logistics—ensuring each user had only what they needed to do their job. Importantly, this work was done hand-in-hand with end users and their managers. We invested heavily in communication and engagement so that everyone understood the changes, the reasoning behind them, and where to get support.

Twelve months on, the results are clear. A recent review showed a significant drop in access-related risk. We can now run Segregation of Duties reports directly from SAP GRC to better understand our current exposure. Users report that they can find the apps they need more quickly, and managers are now equipped to make informed access decisions—reducing risk and support overhead across the business.

Key Takeaways:

  • How we used ALM and Signavio to build better roles for supply chain teams
  • Why business knowledge is essential to balancing access and risk in supply chain roles
  • How change management and user engagement drove adoption—and cut support noise

When Data Governance Fails the Rebuild Starts with Trust Not Tools

Speaker: Charlie Sleiman, Data Governance Lead at Endeavour Energy

Master data is the foundation for every digital initiative—from AI to automation—but too often, organisations treat it as a technical problem. In this candid session, you’ll hear how one asset-intensive business, Endeavour Energy, hit pause on a failed solution and took a bold, business-led approach to turn things around.

With honesty and a touch of humour, this story walks through what happened when a data governance project didn’t meet the mark, and how the team used that failure as a springboard to rebuild—this time with the business firmly in the driver’s seat.

Now in year two of a three-year roadmap, the organisation is seeing stronger collaboration, clearer accountability, and a cultural shift that’s putting data ownership and literacy at the heart of operations.

You’ll hear how the team:

  • Reframed the initiative as a business problem, not an IT one
  • Embedded SimpleMDG as a tool to support the strategy

Aligning EAM and SCM is no Longer a Wish, it's a Strategic NEED!

Speakers: Drew Troyer, Industry Expert and Tim McLain, Chief Strategy Officer at Lexin Solutions

Enterprise Asset Managers (EAMs) and Supply Chain Managers are inextricably linked—each relies on the other to deliver safety, reliability, and profitability across asset-intensive industries. Physical assets require timely, high-quality parts, materials, and services to perform. Likewise, supply chains depend on accurate, forward-looking asset strategies to forecast demand, reduce working capital, and avoid costly disruptions. When these two functions operate in sync, they create a seamless system of availability, resilience, and efficiency. When disconnected, they create delays, stockouts, cost overruns, and unplanned downtime. Alignment is no longer optional—it’s a strategic necessity.

Five Key Talking Points:

  • Planned Work Requires Planned Parts: Maintenance strategies are only as good as the supply chain’s ability to deliver the right parts, tools, and services at the right time. Without tight integration, schedule compliance and wrench time suffer.
  • Unplanned Work Creates Chaos—Unless Supply Is Agile: Emergency repairs demand rapid procurement and redeployment. Only a connected supply chain can support resilience in crisis without driving up costs through overstocking or premiums.
  • Asset Strategies Drive Demand Signals: Accurate asset lifecycle planning and failure forecasting allow supply chain teams to reduce inventory bloat, optimize min-max levels, and improve procurement lead times.
  • Critical Spares = Critical Risks: EAMs define asset criticality; supply chain ensures availability. Together, they manage risk by determining what’s truly “critical” and aligning stocking, sourcing, and vendor strategies accordingly.
  • Shared Data Enables Shared Success: BOMs, failure modes, lead times, and usage rates all live in different systems. Only when EAM and Supply Chain teams collaborate on master data, governance, and analytics can the enterprise achieve true reliability and cost control.

Presenter: Bruno Cechella, SAP Digital Manufacturing Lead APAC, Fujitsu Asia Pacific

This session will highlight the key challenges faced by manufacturers and how SAP Digital Manufacturing (SAP DM) addresses these issues to optimize production processes and improve operational efficiency.

The following points will be covered:

  • SAP Digital Manufacturing helps manufacturers to streamline the end-to-end manufacturing operations and production processes by seamlessly connecting the top floor enterprise systems and shop floor industrial systems and machines with a standardised cloud-based MES (Manufacturing Execution System) solution across multiple plants, helping to eliminate infrastructure costs with on-premises solutions.
  • SAP DM is also a game-changing solution, empowering manufacturers to transform their operations by going paperless and embracing a more sustainable future.
  • Lack of real-time or limited visibility into production processes hampers decision-making, making it challenging to identify bottlenecks, monitor production progress, and address issues promptly.
  • Quality Control and Defects - Ensuring consistent product quality and minimizing defects is a common pain point. Ineffective quality control processes can result in rework, scrap, customer dissatisfaction, and increased costs.
  • Downtime and Equipment Failures - Equipment breakdowns, unplanned maintenance, and frequent downtime can significantly impact productivity and output, leading to production delays and missed delivery deadlines.
